Investment in Heavy Gauge Leveller Allows us to Give Our Customers Even More Options
All machinery, eventually, wears down and needs replacing or refurbishing. After decades of use our Ungerer Heavy Gauge Leveller needed some work to bring it back to full operational capacity. At the same time we had started experiencing increased demand for mill processed plate steel, which made it important for this work be completed to the highest standards.
We commissioned Bronx Engineering Ltd., the market leader in coil processing lines and equipment for over 60 years, to undertake the refurbishment. We took the Leveller offline in February. Just over three months later, with an investment of £150,000, the Leveller is operational and in better shape than it has been in years.
When the machine was taken offline it was fully stripped down. Precision is hugely important in our industry, which is why we sought to have it inspected and re-built. Our 4.0mm 1700 wide Ungerer Leveller is an important piece of equipment for us at HTSS, which is why we spent time and money giving it years more of productivity. This way we can continue to guarantee the finest quality light plate steel on the market.
Bronx Engineering proceeded to install newly manufactured parts, rather than repair the existing components of the machine. During this refurbishment they installed re-ground and polished work rolls, new back up bearings and back up rolls, new back up screws, new top and bottom chocks and new anti-backlash springs. They also installed a new digital measuring system, which will be integrated with our consignment system and software, so that clients can track their steel from order through to delivery, including during the manufacturing process.
Due to this refurbishment we can now produce fully flattened sheets from 0.8 – 3.0mm and up to 1500mm wide. This investment has restored the machine to its original 5.0mm capacity, giving us the ability to enter the light plate market, when we have the opportunity, or when an existing client needs these services. We are pleased that this investment will give our customers more options.
As part of the contract with Bronx Engineering we also received a week of Operator training, during the week when the machine was recommissioned.
